Analysing opening sequences, The Wolf of Wall Street
The third opening sequence I will be looking at is Wolf of Wall Street which is a drama.
The Wolf of Wall Street opens with the Paramount Pictures logo and a bold, simple title sequence, setting the tone for its high-energy narrative. The film uses fast-paced editing to portray the rapid rise of Jordan Belfort, while his voiceover, often breaking the fourth wall, offers a humorous and unreliable perspective on events. The focus on excessive wealth and luxurious parties highlight the characters’ moral decline. Dark comedy and satire are focused, presenting their outrageous behaviours with humour while conveying their corruption. Over-the-top characters, particularly Belfort and his colleagues, highlight humour, while the film also shows the violent consequences of their actions, emphasising their eventual downfall.
